Jachim’s Window was inspired by a trip to Morocco and a visit to the small village where our guide, Jachim, grew up. There he showed us the simple mud-and-straw home where he had lived as a child.
As he sat in front of his childhood home, tears began to stream down his cheeks. For a moment, he seemed caught between the life before him and the memories behind him, people and moments that now existed only in his mind.
The window in this painting represents that moment: the emotion he shared as he looked back, and my brief glimpse into his heart.

Nomad reminds me of roaming through the gardens of a once bustling village in Morocco. Our guide wore a robe whose shape and movement found its way into the central form of this painting. Every time I see it, I’m transported back to those moments.
